Zimbabwe Export April 2020
This video is of 105 of 200 dairy heifers in calf that were commissioned by TranZDVC (Transforming Zimbabwe’s Dairy Value Chain for the Future).
In April 2020 the isolation and export of 105 dairy cross breeds (Holstein X Jersey) heifers in calf began, after drawing blood for the extensive testing to make sure they are clear of FMD, EBL and Johne’s disease. The cattle were then delivered to Cape Eastern Livestock’s isolation facilities where the Heifers were to stay for 21 days (as per protocol) which ended up being extended by another 2 weeks because of the Covid 19 that locked down the world.
In Isolation part of the routine was to feed and immunize them to keep the immune system healthy for the 3 day trip to Zimbabwe.
Even Though the Covid 19 virus was hanging over South Africa, our men and woman in the agriculture field were hard at work making this a smooth and successful export. A Warm and hearty Thank You is deserved to all the people involved and helped make it possible.
